This work is the second in my New Zealand landscape series. A few years ago I flew down to Dunedin to help my sister collect her car which had been stored there with a friend. We had decided to take a week driving up to Auckland and on the way stayed the night at her friend's parent's place. On the road between Lake Wanaka and Queenstown, we came across this beautiful mountain near Cardrona. It was early morning and the frost was crunching beneath my feet and cracking across the puddles as I walked to a gate at the side of the road, camera in hand. Ever since I photographed this place I have wanted to paint it.  The delicious golden light and the russets, ochres and velvet browns of Autumn have been calling to me.
