I think that most of us suffer some form of anxiety quite frequently in our lives. For some this is perhaps only mildly disturbing, while for others it is mind numbingly, debilitating.
I have certain things that always seem to cause me anxiety and I have to work really hard to control the physical symptoms that manifest in my body, if I let it get away from me.
One of the worst ones for me was to do with travel - catching planes is probably the worst, but even catching trains can be a problem. It is not the travel itself, rather it is the fear of missing the plane or the train. Once I get to the airport and have checked my luggage - I'm fine - no more need to worry.
My mind knows it's not the end of the world if I miss my connection - inconvenient yes - but not devastating. Tell that to my tummy!
Now, however, I have several tools in my kit that I can use to help lessen that anxiety. So if one is not working, I can try something else.
Are you in need of some strategies to deal with the anxiety in your life?
Coming up in late November, is a series of Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) learning workshops which will be delivered to you by my colleague Caroline Webster, British Psychological accredited, Mindfulness Teacher, Caroline Webster and Artist and Arts Educator yours truly - Kadira Jennings.
